Democratising quality design

Building on our longstanding partnership with Laminex, Ortolan was engaged to create a new brand for their for their pre-assembled joinery range, Made by Laminex. Created to bridge the gap between their premium custom solutions and everyday homeowners, the challenge was creating a brand that felt distinctly separate from Laminex while leveraging their reputation for design, targeting customers who wanted great design made easy rather than just cheap alternatives.

It was identified that the real barrier wasn’t price alone—it was the complexity and fear of making wrong choices in the renovation process. Made by Laminex needed to feel like ‘the modularisation of custom,’ offering predetermined design palettes that gave customers confidence, while maintaining flexibility and personalisation.

The solution was a comprehensive identity system built around simplified messaging, distinct colour combinations and modular fields or grid patterns used to organise information and directly represent the flexibility and customisation possibilities of the product offering. Animated storytelling became central to the brand communication, with GIFs demonstrating the modular assembly process that made the concept immediately understandable.

The complete brand rollout included identity design, art direction, web design, comprehensive brochure systems, social look and feel, and showroom signage. Made by Laminex successfully transforms the renovation experience from overwhelming to achievable, demonstrating that accessible design doesn’t mean compromising on the quality that Laminex is known for.
